Installing Quick Inventory:

1: Only Windows 2000 and XP workstations are listed, why?

Windows NT, 95 and 98 do not support directory and file names longer than eight(8) characters. In the login script, you have to put the command line between double-quotes for the Inventory Agent to be executed. Ex: "command line".

2: Can I scan a workstation that is not on the network?

Of course. All you have to do is to copy the Inventory Agent on a floppy disk, execute it on the workstation and copy the files containing the information(WorkstationName.inv) in the data directory you specified in the Configuration/Options... menu.

3: Not all the workstations are listed, regardless of the operating system, why?

If you are using more than one login script, please insert the command line in all of them. There may be a delay between the insertion of the command line and its execution. Do not forget that each login scripts must be replicated on the server before being executed..

4: The agent is copied on all the stations at each startup, slowing down the network in the process. How can I speed up the execution of the agent?

To avoid that the agent gets copied on all the stations at each startup, you need to copy it manually on each station. You can also use the login script to do it:

SET COPYCMD=/Y
XCOPY "\\ServerName\ShareName\InventoryAgent.exe" "c:\" /D

Then, run locally InventoryAgent.exe using the folder as a parameter, pointing where the files containing the workstation's information should be i.e.

"c:\InventoryAgent.exe \\ServerName\ShareName\"

5: I am experiencing problems exporting my database to Microsoft Access, what can I do?

If you have Microsoft Office 2000/XP, you will only have the version 4.0 of DAO installed on your computer. You need DAO 3.5 in order to export your database to Microsoft Access. You can download it here.

Download DAO 3.5.

Using Quick Inventory:

1: Why is it that the operating system does not show up under the software tab?

The operating system installed on a workstation is included under the System tab, in the main window.

2: Why does a window titled " Information about delayed workstations " appears when starting Quick Inventory?

Listed workstations have not been rebooted since the number of days specified in the Expiration Delay box, in the Configuration/Options... menu. You can delete these workstations if in fact they are linked to the network anymore. You can set the Expiration Delay at a higher value if you do not wish this window to pop-up anymore.

3: Why am I getting a message saying "A printer must be installed for page setup" when trying to export a report to excel?

Automatic page setup will repeat the column's names on each page and will auto-size them to fit the longest string in the column.
