Installing the server:

  • Install the Quick Inventory server on your Windows server or on your workstation if you only have a Novell server or other.
  • The configuration wizard will guide you trough the next steps of the installation.

The configuration wizard:

  • Create a hidden share on the server so the users cannot access it.
  • Add read, write and execute rights for Domain users group on the share.
  • Enter parameters to build the login script.
  • Import comments and groups form previous Quick Inventory installations.
  • The configuration is now complete. Copy the command lines in your login script.
  • The command lines in your login script will execute the Inventory Agent when a workstation reboots.
Note : The login script must be replicated on all server.

Installing the client:

  • You need the Local Administrator rights to install and use the Quick Inventory client.
  • Install the Quick Inventory client on a Windows workstation (Windows NT,2000 or XP).
  • Run the Quick Inventory client : Start Menu/Programs/Prophetic Software/Quick Inventory 2.4 or click the desktop shortcut.

The configuration wizard:

  • Enter the Domain name.
  • You can activate comments search on the server manager if you have a Windows network and the domain administrator rights.
  • Select the data deposit folder. The folder must be the same for all Quick Inventory users. If the server is installed on your workstation you must enter the same network path as all the other users.
However, you can specify the folder locally if the folder structure is the same on the local path and the network path.

IMPORTANT: The exportation of the database to Microsoft Access 97 requires DAO 3.5. You will have to download it if you're using Microsoft Office 2000/XP. You can download DAO 3.5 here.
